This simple technique for transferring images into a plastic yields a wide variety of possible uses.

The thin nature an flexibility of the gel makes it well-suited for incorporating into artworks. It's transparency gives some interesting possibilities...

This tutorial shows the basics - more the process than a final product - your imagination can take it from something simple into something amazing. There's almost an infinite number of applications across the arts and crafts spectrum.

Top 5 Benefits of Joining a Local Camera Club

What do you think is the best way to learn about digital photography? From a book or DVD? From a class? Trial and error? Why not surround yourself with people who know more about the subject than you do? A local camera club is the perfect place to gain more knowledge about digital photography.

If Someone Asks You to Join, Do It

Camera clubs are a great group of photographers, all willing to share their knowledge.  Quite often the mix of members include professional photographers to very creative digital artists. There are nature, landscape, portrait, macro and product photographers toe newbies looking to glean as much info as they can. All in all, there are lots of people to teach you new things.

The 5 Benefits

  1. Although your local camera club may operate differently, here are five benefits I've discovered.
  2. Talk with like minded photographers - Most clubs have the full range from newbie to pro, and all with varying shooting styles. Don't be afraid that you won't fit in. You will.
  3. Educational classes - You'll be able to learn new techniques and methods from people in the know. Whether the class is taught by a club member or an outside source, you can learn about software, how to use your camera, studio lighting and more.
  4. Competitions and Critiques - Monthly competitions will usually have a theme; Macro, Flash, Transportation, Portraits etc. These will get you to shoot things you perhaps never would. You'll get inspired by the work of others. Through the critiques and judging you'll hone your skills and improve your pictures.
  5. Trips and Excursions - You may find professional photographers who run Photo Tours or club members may lead little day trips. You'll get the chance to explore new places and have an experienced guide to show you the best techniques and vantage points to shoot from. This is some of the best (and cheapest) digital photography training you can get.
  6. A Shared Library - Many clubs have lending libraries, where members donate books so others can benefit. You'll be able to learn new things without having to buy the book.
  7. Find a Local Camera Club
  8. Many photographic associations like the Canadian Association of Photographic Arts (CAPA) or the Greater Toronto Camera Club Council (GTCCC) have lists of local camera club on their web sites.  Don't wait, you should check them out today!

I hope that you can find a local camera club. If not, get together with some friends and start your own!

Still Life Photography Workshop

Still Life Photography - Put your skills to the test by transforming what you consider to be everyday objects into exciting images

Still life photography is traditionally a photograph of inanimate objects, usually in small groupings. Sometimes the idea is to accurately represent the objects as they are. Other times the subject matter of the photograph is there to serve the composition and design of the image.

The photographer is able to select all of the elements of the photograph including the subject matter and the background. Lighting is critical in still life photography.

We will run two (2) sessions this month to accommodate week day and weekend time slots for participants
  • Wednesday Oct 3, 7 pm - 9:30 pm
  • Sunday Oct 21, 10 am to 12:30 pm

Creative Imaging Photography Meetup - facilitated by BPC member Toni Wallachy

Want International Competition Experience Without The Price Tag?

The 5th Bi-Annual Chung Ai International Salon

It is the tradition of the Chung Ai Photographic Society to hold an International Photographic Salon every two years. Our previous success in holding this event was largely based on the support from the world wide photographic community.

Time has elapsed swiftly that we are already planning for the 5th International Salon to be held on October 13 and 14, 2012. The Salon Committee has decided to continue with the Digital Format and accept Digital Images only. All submissions can be made by utilizing this Web Site. Competitions will be based on projected images assessed by a Panel of Judges. The Projected Exhibition to be held on November 4 and will be open to the public.

Time is running out - entry due date is October 1, 2012.  There currently only 167 participants, which is a mere drop in the hat compared to some international salons.  Not only is the participation level low, but so is the entrance fee.  Starting at $18 US for one category is a virtual steel.

So why wait - send those images in now.
